Video Discovery #6 of 2009: Easy to Create Video Series
Posted on January 4th, 2010 in Business Strategy, Production, Video, traffic | 5 Comments »
While genius goes a long way to solve your online video traffic issues, its often a crap shoot.
Even if you create one hit, its hard to reproduce another. Plus, if your follow-up videos are sub par, your audience can desert you. Creating a hit video is like trying to strike it rich in Vegas. The house usually wins.
But there is one other factor we have total control over: Consistency.
And creating simple videos, day after day, has vaulted several solopreneurs to online video stardom. Including one whose worldwide notoriety is as easy as a stroll down the beach. Literally.
Roxanne Darling, pontificates on the world, business and personal growth – and captures it all on video – with her fabulous Beachwalks with Rox series:

Here is a quick video of Roxanne talking about how each episode is created:

Cranking out hundreds of Beachwalks videos builds relationship, trust and the size of your audience. People look to you, not as “some marketer” but as a friend, and can actually feel something is missing if you skip a day.
So what are the keys that make Beachwalks with Rox so successful?
Capture your video in a setting your audience can relate to or finds desirable. Now we can’t all walk down the beach in Hawaii every day. But what do you have access to every day that is a dream for your audience? Example: If you work from home, simply filming yourself sitting on your bed with your laptop (in your pajamas) will seem like a dream to someone who commutes 2 hours a day in rush hour traffic. (How about ‘Jammy Talks with Rox?’)
Something valuable you can talk about every day: If you are passionate about what you do, this should not be difficult. The key is to stay focused and break your talks into 3-5 minute segments. And focus on one idea per segment. Most folks can’t spend alot of time with you, at least when you are new. So keep it concise, while keeping it entertaining.
Make it something you WILL do. No matter how neat this seems, if you are not going to do it consistently, at some point its going to break down. What are the kinds of things you are talking about every day anyway? What are the topics or conversations that go on in your head every day that you want to tell your customers about? Simply capture it on camera.
The key is simplicity. Beachwalks with Rox is a simple idea. It created worldwide notoriety on a tiny budget. And when it comes right down to it, the added business you will drum up is perhaps the biggest motivation of all.

Mahalo for the feature!
Of course, I/we totally agree with everything you’ve written above. It may take some trial and error, but if you can find what you’re passionate about, other people will be interested in your story. Just don’t give up until you’ve given yourself enough time to get comfortable and find your own pace.

Very cool. You probably have to plan when you film to some extent as I’ve seen some film outside and there is so much wind you can’t hear what the person is saying. Your surroundings are incredibly gorgeous! Thanks.

Definitely like your idea of searching for a memorable location to film your videos, although that might be a bit difficult … but now I’ll think about using my own home, as I talk about all things related to home ownership.
