OK. I’ve come clean.

As much as I rail again being obsessed with cool tools … how they are the crash-and-burn demise of scores of online entrepreneurs, who think having the latest gadget is their ticket to traffic nirvana …

… I am …  well … obsessed with cool tools.

3 keys (and 3 tools) to ramp up quickly with your online videos

Posted on March 3rd, 2010 in Gadgets / Goodies, Video | 12 Comments »

Can I get a little bit personal?

Do you make things harder than they need to be?

(Kinda forward of me, I know).

But I had to say it.

Because the more I work with folks to leverage the amazing power of online video, I am struck with one stunning fact.

And its something that keeps 95 percent of entrepreneurs from EVER creating any online video.

I have found is there is one roadblock that keeps folks like us from creating videos that can give them a huge advantage over their competitors.

And put them in position to reap the amazing video advances coming down the pipeline with lightning speed.

And chances are, you are doing it too.

New iPod Nano: Shoots video, uploads to YouTube and Facebook

Posted on September 9th, 2009 in Emerging Trends, Gadgets / Goodies, Video | No Comments »

In a way you gotta pitty PC people who don’t have the drama of the semi-annual Apple major product announcement in their lives.

Today — Apple announced the new iPod Nano with a built-in video camera. Very cool, especially at the price point:

  • $149 for 8 GB
  • $179 for 16 GB

Could be time to use the discount coupons I get for using my Amazon Charge Card. Of course there are questions:

  • What is the res of the video?
  • Does it load into iMovie for editing? (The Nano video page says the videos load into iPhoto. Why iPhoto?)
  • How does it do in lower light situations?

One of the cool things I like about my Flip Camera is how it adjusts to settings with minimal light. Some of the clips on the Apple site look a bit dark (could it be my monitor?)

If you were in the market for a new Nano anyway, this is a no brainer.

Will need to see more to know if you should spring for one just for the video. The editing issue is crucial – how simple is it to edit the videos shot?

Will also be interesting to see if there is any kind of a mini-tripod accessory so you can get stable video. If you are a marketer, nothing worse than making your viewers seasick because you can’t hold the camera steady.

Do You Use an Overseas Bridge Line?

Posted on March 19th, 2008 in Gadgets / Goodies | No Comments »

Most of the time in our Moos Tips, I’m answering your questions. From time to time, I’m audacious enough to ask you to answer one of mine.

So here goes:

It appears its much more difficult to find free bridge lines overseas (Europe, Australia, elsewhere) than it is here in the US of A.

For those of you who live (or travel extensively) overseas, what bridge line services do you use? Are they free? If not, what is the cost?

I would be so appreciative if you could leave a comment below and share your experience. Thanks!

Over the top iPod accessory
Is this fun, or what?

As you know, I’m all business in my announcements. My mission is to help you boost your business with audio products, and my writing usually reflects that.

But ya know, with the holidays approaching, I couldn’t resist this amazing item which has to be filed under “Is This for Real?”

Everyone knows the iPod is at the top of a lot of holiday gift lists. But now there’s a new accessory that drives everyone favorite audio electronica completely out of the park.

Its fun, its crazy. And its absolutely 100 percent for real.

Its iPod Karoke.

Yep, for 50 bucks you can pick up something called the iKaraoke, and turn your iPod into a lean, mean, Karaoke Machine.

Oh, the fun! Oh the parties! Oh, the humanity!

The iPod accessory geniuses at Griffin Technology have created an add-on that isolates the lead vocal track of any music on your iPod, and fades it, allowing you to show that you’re true American Idol material.

This baby comes with its own microphone that allows you to belt out the tunes using the actual music you love, instead of cheap instrumental imitations. The iKaraoke plugs into your home stereo so the volume can match your talent.

It also comes with an FM transmitter, so you can play it over your home or auto stereo. There’s even reverb for that professional touch.

More exciting – you can mute the music, and use the iKaraoke as a PA system.

You probably can’t catapult your profits with it – or build your mailing list. But is there any electronic audio gizmo out there that can unleash the fun like this?

4 Ways the iPod Will Revolutionize Your Business

Posted on October 23rd, 2006 in Gadgets / Goodies | No Comments »

The entertainment device of the decade
Rolls up its sleeves and goes to work

Apple’s iPod music (and now video) player revolutionized the entertainment landscape. It made downloadable audio a household word, spawned the podcasting industry, and single handedly transformed online video from a geek curiousity into a to a red-hot channel for visual content.

But did you know the iPod can also make you money? (And I don’t mean if you work for Apple!)

Astute entrepreneurs are discovering a treasure trove of techniques to leverage the iPod to boost their own profits.

Think its just a pipe dream? Think again! We’ve got four audacious avenues to making this a reality. And you won’t need an engineering degree to put them to work:

  1. The iPod Content Catalogue

If you’ve already created a lot of audio content – even if you’ve been giving it away – you can create a high value product by stocking an iPod with your complete MP3 catalogue of your audio products, recordings and podcasts.

If price is a major consideration, you can spring for the latest version of the iPod Nano, with 2 GB of storage for $149. To put that into context, I can place 40-60 hours of decent quality voice recordings onto a 2GB Nano. Since most of us don’t have half that much content, it leaves our customers with plenty of space for their own stuff.

  2. Quality iPod Recording

This all-new capability was hatched literally weeks ago.

If you’ve been hankerin’ after an iPod (or were itching for a good reason to buy one) this may just push you over the edge. The latest iPods can now record in CD quality!

But you’ll want to be careful! First, there are just a few iPods that let you pull this off. Second, the iPod will not record on its own, but requires an added accessory that has just become available. Third, there are several quirks to iPod recording you’ll want to know about ahead of time so you can plan for. These aren’t deal breakers. But if you don’t know about them, and the easy ways to get around them, they can spoil the party fast.

One of the most exciting things about iPod recording is that it gives you a great way to record your live speaking gigs, presentations and workshops, and transform them into lucrative CD products you can sell at the back of the room and online.

And we’ll reveal just how to get this done in our all new Create Your Own Blockbuster Speaking CDs telecourse, starting in a just a few days. As part of the course you’ll receive a 20-page special section with all the details on how you can begin recording terrific, lucrative content right on your iPod.

  3. iPods as Incentives

In addition to selling stocked iPods, you can also provide them as incentives for other revenue boosting activities. For instance, if you have an affiliate program – where other folks sell your products for a cut of the action – you can reward your top-selling affiliates with an iPod stocked with your own programs.

You can even insure this pays off by calculating beforehand how much product they’d need to sell for you to get them an iPod and still be hundreds or thousands of dollars ahead.

For example: reward folks who sell a specific dollar amount of your products with an iPod. Or make it a competition by offering an iPod to the three top-selling affiliates each year . Yep, it will cost you. But you can design this incentive so you are sure to come out ahead.

If you have an elite program – like the monthly membership programs offered by many marketing gurus – you can reward long-time members with iPod premiums: a 2GB Nano for 1 year of membership, 8GB Nano for 2 years of membership or an iPod Video for 3 years of continuous membership. Like rewards points you get for using a credit card, each month of membership in your program accrues points which can be redeemed for an iPod bonus.

Once again you can take the guesswork out of this (the banks do!) by insuring you’re still way ahead even after springing for the iPod.

  4. Podcasting

Sure, you don’t need an iPod to Podcast. But this terrific, automatic way of distributing your free audio content (no spam filters, yay!) can familiarize folks with what you do, build your mailing list and lead to sales. I know a few folks who have built their podcasts from nothing to several thousand downloads a month pretty quickly.

It’s the kind of constant contact that builds customer loyalty and translates directly into increased sales and enrollments.

So while the iPod began as a cool way to enjoy our music, its morphed into a tool that – with careful planning — can not only pay for itself, but make you a very tidy profit. This isn’t automatic. You’ll have to be creative. But you’ll find there are any number of ways to translate the worldwide profile of this amazing device into an increased bottom line for your own business.
