avatar-poster-smlMuch of the time, we have to work our tails off to get our businesses over the next hump.

And while we are all secretly hoping for a simple trick to take away the sweat, when we stumble on one we recoil in skepticism.

Well try to suspend your disbelief for just a moment.

(Hey it worked with the movie Avatar, right? I mean, there aren’t really 10 foot blue people staking around, are there?)

This is a true story. It happened to me. It was literally one thing I did. And it quadrupled my revenue.

Why ideas suck

Posted on March 13th, 2009 in Business Strategy, Information Products | No Comments »

It happens so often, I am no longer surprised.

Only saddened.

Because when I see it and hear it, I know a very rude, uncomfortable even painful awakening is close at hand.

What makes it even more disheartening, is it tends to happen with the folks who have amazing things to offer. But won’t be able to if they continue to shoot themselves in the foot.

And it happens when they call me, excited, to tell me:

Rob, I have a GREAT idea for a product!

At which point I want to answer

Great! And how many of them do you intend to buy from yourself?

Most entrepreneurs, coaches, speakers, consultants and other solo professionals are madly in love with their ideas.

What they don’t realize is their audience may not be.

Ideas suck. They really do.

The Eighth Secret: Why your info products aren’t as profitable as you’d like

Posted on March 10th, 2009 in Business Strategy, Information Products | 1 Comment »

No, I didn’t suddenly become a swami.

And no . . . this isn’t some cryptic title to a new metaphysical best seller, that I will make big bucks from.

But its something YOU might make big bucks from.

You see, two weeks ago, I hosted a free call-in titled The Seven Secrets to Your First Five-Figure Launch. And I received many kind notes from those who were there live and those who listened to it.

However, I realized I left something out.

Its something that can make the difference between a product that is moderately successful, and a huge career maker. It can elevate a hum-drum “me-too” product, to cult status. And it can elevate you from a wanna be guru to a thought leader.

Its something anyone can do because it doesn’t require technical expertise. And its something almost everyone who has achieved door-busting success with their products has put into effect.

Are You Suffering From Roseanne Rosannadanna Syndrome?

Posted on March 2nd, 2009 in Business Strategy, Getting Personal, Information Products | No Comments »

One of the biggest blocks to your own success creating the online information product windfall you have been dreaming of may be staring back at you in the mirror.

I know that*s a pretty shocking statement. It may even make you angry.

But if you listen for just a few minutes, you just might save yourself months (or more) of frustration.

Now when I suggest you may be your biggest obstacle you may be thinking:

  • I don’t know enough about marketing
  • I don’t like to network
  • I am confused by social networking
  • I am not technical
  • My last product wasn’t very successful

But I am suggesting none of those things.

What I am suggesting is you might need to take a lesson from one of the greatest marketing sages of all time:

Rosanne Rosannadanna.

5 Crucial Keys to Blockbuster Teleseminar Profits

Posted on November 24th, 2008 in Business Strategy, Information Products | No Comments »

i
Whenever someone asks me, “Rob, what is the best way to begin creating products easily and profitably, I have only one answer:

Telseminars.

There is simply no debate: If you are just starting to create passive revenue info products (or even if you are a veteran!), teleseminars are the easiest way to create a jump start profit explosion:

**   Easy distribution
**   No shipping hassles
**   No recording equipment required with the many free bridge lines that record your call for you.

However, many entrepreneurs struggle creating revenue from their initial efforts. Especially with small mailing lists. Especially when they have been offering free teleseminars.

However there are simple keys to insure your success. They are the same secrets I used to jump start my anemic teleseminars into a five-figure overall revenue stream (even when my list was less than 1,000!)

Six Crucial Cornerstones to Your Next Passive Revenue Blockbuster

Posted on October 20th, 2008 in Business Strategy, Information Products | 1 Comment »

Here are two truths, short and simple:

  • Just about everyone would love to master the art of creating successful passive revenue info products.
  • Very few will actually make it happen.

And that’s a shame.

Most people simply throw their passive revenue product ideas at the wall and hope they stick. They rarely do.

However, the good news is that if you are willing to create your products strategically, you can not only avoid this fate, but create highly profitable info products time after time.

Here are six important keys 94% of your competitors are missing which can give you a leg up on product success:

  1. Everything you do is a potential product: your articles, your blog posts, your teleseminars, your live presentations. Learn to see every bit of content you create as a seed for your next passive revenue stream.

Now relax! This doesn’t mean you have to create a product from everything. But gauging the response to the content you are already producing is a great way to know which product will give you the best result.

When you develop this ability, it generates an incredible amount of material you can then repurpose into products quickly and easily.

  2. Every passive revenue product serves a specific purpose building overall business.

Simply creating a product and ‘hoping’ your audience will buy it isn’t good enough.

Knowing BEFOREHAND what you want each product to accomplish is the best way to make your info product dreams come true.

Some products you sell to create revenue. Others you give away free to generate interest in a higher-priced offering. Others you can offer as bonus premiums to those who sign up for workshops or consulting, or to build your mailing list. The clearer you are on the result you want your products to create, the greater the impact it will have on your bottom line.

  3. Make sure that creating your info products is simple, affordable and leverages your existing talents and abilities.

Your products need to be simple, even enjoyable to produce. If they aren’t, you will find every possible reason to delay creating them. Its that simple.

So whether you create them yourself or find affordable help, set up your creation process so that it’s simple, create great content, and get it out there. The less resistance you have to creating products, the more you will create, the more revenue streams you can establish.

Stop trying to reinvent the wheel! Your customers don’t care how you make your products. They only care that they solve their problems.

  4. Your passive revenue info products are crafted to deliver maximum value to those you most want to work with.

Your products should leave nothing to chance. They should target those you WANT to work with. They should deliver benefits those folks want & be crystal clear about the positive impact those benefits will have on their lives.

  5. Every product must serve as a doorway to all the rest of your products and services.

Each product is not an island. It should funnel satisfied customers to everything else you offer.

It’s a known fact that its much easier to sell new products and services to existing customers than to try to find new ones. This cross-pollination between everything you offer is the key leveraging this truth and maximizing your info product revenue.

  6. It presents the heart of your message in a way that is SO DISTINCTIVELY ARTICULATED that your potential customers GET IT.

Homogenized messages don’t sell. Distinctive, dynamic, creative ones do. The potential impact your products can have is massive. But you have to be able to convey the power of what you offer in a way that is fresh and compelling.

Don’t doom yourself out of the starting gate with a retread of what’s hot. Your potential customers are hungry for something new — be sure you give it to them.

Top 5 Business Boosting Voice Recorder Info Products

Posted on August 4th, 2008 in Information Products, Production | No Comments »

Down through the years, one of the most common info products questions people ask is:

Rob, what is the easiest way to record my information products?

And I always tell them there isn’t one pat answer. As with most things, it depends on a variety of factors:

  • Recording / speaking experience
  • Technical ability
  • The kinds of product you want to create
  • What your audience is looking for

What I can say is, one of the ways many get started is with a digital voice recorder. But this leads to another question:

What kinds of info products can I record easily with a voice recorder?

The good news is there are quite a few ideas. The sheer variety (and the impact they can have on your business) may shock you.

Here is a list of 5 projects you can create on your digital voice recorder that are the simplest to produce and can have the biggest impact on your business:

Testimonials:

If you do a lot of speaking or networking, I am sure you have run into this: Some one literally knocks you over, gushing about what a huge impact your blog, products, or services have had on their life.
When you ask them, “Would you be willing to write me a testimonial?” they scream their consent, gratitude gushing from their eyes.

And you never hear from them again.

The next time this happens, why not whip out your handy voice recorder and ask if they would be willing to give your testimonial RIGHT THERE. You can even ask them directive questions to get the type of response that literally sings off the sales page.

Sure you will have to transcribe it. But a great testimonial is worth its weight in gold. And now you never have to miss one again.

Conference Expert Interviews:

As long as you’ve spent big bucks to fly across the country to that great conference . . . why not leverage that investment by interviewing some of the speakers. It will take all of 5 minutes, and give them an opportunity to promote their wares to your audience. You come out looking great because your audience receives terrific content and hears you hobnobbing with the elite.

Who knows? It may even be the seed of a great JV.

Your speaking gigs, workshops and presentations

The quickest way to create a great product is simply record one of your live talks. There*s no scripting and limited planning (especially if it’s a talk you are already giving). Now you want to make sure the presentation is packed with value, and you give your listeners some take-aways they can act on, both in the short term and the long run.

At best, a few thousand folks can see you live. But once you get those babies recorded, you suddenly have access to a worldwide audience.

Opt-in Audio Course Segments:

Everyone and their grandma has a bonus report to entice subscribers. But what if your freebie included downloadable MP3 segments? Folks can’t read your stuff in the car, at the gym, while they are shopping, or walking around town. But they can listen.

Make your opt-in course iPod friendly by recording short 3 to 5 minute downloadable segments to accompany your blockbuster PDF report.

Podcasts

In the same vein, when the inspiration strikes (and I know from listening to a lot of you that its striking constantly) whip out your voice recorder and commit those gems to audio where people can benefit. Then simply distribute them as a weekly Podcast. It doesn’t have to be formal . . . just valuable.

Imagine the loyalty (and profits) you would create by making sure your subscribers can take your most profound (and valuable) thoughts with them wherever they go . . . right on their iPod!

And speaking of iPods . . .

Very soon we will be releasing a resource that will allow you to create these profitable, valuable audio products and marketing right on your trusty iPod. Make that baby start paying for itself . . . we will show you how.
